The League of Women Voters of Dawson and Pickens Counties (LWVDP) is sponsoring the education of Joy Naserem Saimi. Joy is eight years old and in primary school. She lives in the Oloosirkon, Isinya Division, Kajiado District, Kenya. Our League is working through the Maasai Girls Education Fund, a 501c3 nonprofit organization founded in 2006 by Barbara Lee Shaw, who serves as its executive director.
The mission of the Maasai Girls Education Fund (MGEF) is to improve the literacy, health and economic well-being of Maasai women in Kenya through education. Complete education of a majority of Maasai girls over the next 20 years will enable the next generation of Maasai women to have the opportunity for economic independence and the ability to educate subsequent generations themselves.
